Sixty-eight newly hired teachers, along with selected Division DRRM Marshalls, participated in a comprehensive training session on Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The event, organized by SDO Lucena in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross â?? Quezon Chapter, took place on September 7 at Lucena City Teachers and Employees Conference Center. The training aimed to expand the number of school-based responders equipped with necessary knowledge and skills on first aid and basic life support. These skills are crucial in ensuring the safety of students by enabling teachers to respond effectively to health emergencies. Abbie Kaye Q. Ella, Chapter Service Representative from the Red Cross, opened the training by discussing the objectives, principles of first aid, legal considerations, and potential health and hazard risks. She also emphasized the importance of prevention and protection for first aiders. The second part of the training focused on common emergencies and the proper administration of CPR, where participants were given hands-on demonstrations. John Paul Arenas, a certified First Aid Instructor from the Red Cross, led the session and demonstrated proper CPR techniques. The final activity of the day was led by Alfred Francis Garrol, a licensed first-aider, who taught participants various bandaging techniques using a triangular bandage. The participants expressed their deep appreciation to the Red Cross and the Division Office for the invaluable skills they gained. One participant remarked on the training's relevance, noting that it is vital for teachers to be prepared to handle emergencies within the school setting. In his closing message, Dr. Pascual La Rosa Jr. challenged the newly hired teachers to remain vigilant in emergencies and to continuously enhance their first aid skills, both in their schools and within the community. May Anne Rocafort of Don Victorville NHS represented the participants in accepting the challenge enthusiastically. //Rosebelle Castrillo, SGOD-PDO I
